So excited to download Groovie Movie Soundtracks. I listened to that show religiously and dubbed a lot of episodes on cassettes, and it's one of the reasons I got into radio upon going to college. Thanks for all the inspired picks, and for making the episodes available in digital form.
I had a show called "Dead Melodies" on KSCR 1560 AM, Los Angeles (USC's student station), and then I had another show called "Heartbreak & Nonsense." I played a pretty big mix of stuff, but always peppered in some retro stuff like the Fantastic Planet soundtrack, Perez Prado, Studio One dub and Nuggets-era psych. I don't DJ anymore though, unless my roommates have a party--in which case I pull out all my vinyl and go crazy for sure.

While searching for information on the movie Dusty & Sweets Mcgee, I came across that letter from Melody whose daughter-in-law’s father was in the film. Well, small world the internet creates! I know the son of the character “Pam” in the film. He, too, has been looking for a copy of the movie.

Hey dude, I saw that you played "Ass Wipers Are Us" on the radio. Have you dared to play "Minister with Tourettes Syndrome"? Anyway that CD was my labor
of love ten years ago and I'm getting ready to do some recording with some other musicians.
Here is how that CD was recorded: I asked my friend Jeremy Goody (who is a great audio engineer) if he knew of some real-life punk musicians who would be up for some session work. He recommended these dudes and they came over to a studio I was working at. They played all of three days over a three week period and I paid them each 100 bucks per day--big money for punk musicians! I asked them to rage on as if they were playing at Gilman Street and please ignore my lame-ass guitar playing. They left and I had the tracks to work with. The songs were all written after the bass and drums were recorded. Guitars and vocals were overdubbed later. Anyway I thought you'd get a kick out of it.
Cheers,
Jasper George

Hi Carl,
I've been reading your website for weeks...there's so much of it. I'm descended from Sicilian roots. Spent a month in the land of our ancestors. Loved it!!! I actually have many living relatives in Siracusa, Sciacca and, yes (shudder), Palermo. Family names are Sabella, Sollecito and Ra. I'm spending a lot of time online looking for real estate in Rome or more to the point a little outside of Rome. I'd like some chickens in the yard and a garden and doggies.
I lived in Rome for 2 years where I got my art degree at the Accademia di Belle Arti on Via di Ripetta near the Piazza del Popolo. But now I want to live there again and buy something. I speak Italian and Sicilian. It truly IS a different language.
Anyway, I really enjoy you and your whimsical humor in speaking of the motherland. I feel like I belong there. Every time I'm there there's the feeling that I'm home. Since we're heading headlong into a Fascist government here I hope that Italy has had it's fill of that disreputable condition!!!

J. Sollecito

Awesome site! I'm loving your adventures so far. I'm anxiously awaiting the continuation of your Greek adventures. I'm from San Jose and a girlfriend of mine is BEGGING me to move to Greece with her. *She's never been there and neither have I* I'm of course VERY hesitant. Not to mention broke.
I'm getting a kick out of your journal entries, not only are they informative and hilarious, but I'm learning a lot of things that could sway my decision about Greece. Have a great time and I hope you brought some Dr. Shoals for your feet this time.

Stumbled across thine Web site. Giggled a few times with much content left to return and peruse.
Thanks for the effort.... it's nifty keen to find sumpthin' different to peer at.
Ensconced within my humble shanty upon the blizzard-swept tornado-ridden plains of the cultural backwater of Nebraska I revel in reading a site related to my old stomping ground of the 60s and early 70s: the Frisco Bay Area. When the wind was from the northwest I could faintly smell the teargas dispersed within Berkeley and the SDS spoke at our high school...until the CHP, the Blue Meanies and cops from several towns waded into the
crowd, batons swinging as they fought the menace of young teens.
Anyway, all the best to yah' and when time allows I will poke through thine Web site.

Hey Ratso:
Just found your site while surfing the web! Loved reading about your daily survival thrills in Morocco... my girlfriend and I took a similar trip in March of this year and had the time of our lives... we can definitely relate to the "evil eyes" given to both you and Vanessa. (Everyone assumed we were Irish... and boy did we get some snares...although we DID have some great experiences with some of the locals) We didn't get to spend enough time in Portugal though -- maybe next time!
Morocco was AMAZING! My g/f and I both came down with strept throat and our local guide took us to a pharmacy where we bought Amoxicillin for like 10 US dollars -- and it was almost 3 times stronger than US dosage. We were amazed -- it took away our illness in less than 18 hours! We would have missed so much of our journey had we not taken those "wonder" drugs...
Thanks for sharing your journey -- brings back some great memories...

To my all-time favorite DJ...
OK, I'm an unabashed fan, what can I say, it's so rare to hear stuff like you present... I used to make Wednesdays (back in mid-90s) a planned Listen Fest. And I'm a songwriter – who Mussel Shoals has asked to hear demos from (and that I still haven't got to them, partly as I got serious mercury poisoning in 1999 - from regular tuna and sword fish, plus dental amalgams and vaccines - and which I'm just getting beyond enough to deal with bigger things)
hope you get to see www.howlingwolfphotos.com (my site featuring rare and soulful portraits of this legendary blues genius - and my harp teacher.)
Re YOUR your site: well done, for sure... the cabbie story seems to hang after a few words... but maybe that's the point...
Other associative things: My cousin has Manson's album. Got it as a DJ at SF State in 60s Talk about yer low power station. He got DJ of year, then, got to sit in at KSFO yadda yadda, he mixes great tapes, but couldn't handle the top 40 mentality, so is an automotive writer, and you might say, works for a song, but not with them.
Speaking of Manson... the place he lived - Spahn Ranch, was actually property owned by Howard Hughes. Manson, like Cin-que and so many "fake leftists" out to discredit both counterculture and left were likely all part of Evil(le) Younger's CA prison "behavior mod" (Mind Kontrol Ultra) program, in which they used curare's central nervous system paralysis to make subjects "very amenable to suggestion." Oh yeah, that could work... makes 1984 seem like 1948.
I'm sure you are aware of The Glass House Tapes material, no? (LA tactical intelligence unit plots to blow up and assassinate Republican delegates to 1972 convention which was originally scheduled for San Diego, but milk fund scandals force change of convention's state . Member Louis Tackwood talked (fessed up) to KPFK reporters, and a book was
published, later.
Just found out things are even worse re state of the state than I knew... and I thought I KNEW! I mean the last thing that ever shocked me (about this shit) was when I found out in '84 that every cabinet member Reagan ever chose was drawn from a list made by his "Appointment Secretary" (who draws up list from whom cabinet members are selected) and who and what she is.
For 8 years as Gov here and 8 as prez.. Appt Sec was none other than Helene Von Dam (sp?), originally a political protege and personal translator of Otto Von Bolschwing, who OSS took from Hitler's (along with Reinhart Gehlen) Eastern Intel Ops (they killed 20 million Russians) to run OUR eastern intel ops at pentagon.Von Bolschwing brought Helene, who, by the way, later became Hitler's no... make that Reagan's ambassador to Austria... just in time for Bitzberg... and Waldheim, and the beat goes on.
but "best yet"... is the new stuff about 9/11 being our own Reichstag Fire... long suspected, now evidence out... if you're interested I'll send the article, big court case about this in Canada, lotta evidence and links to US and Soviet Intel knowing (a year in advance) and allowing it (one of seven that had been set to go). The best info on this is from reporter Mike
Ruppert, probably much online if you look.
Of course, if you can catch Dave Emory's show, you'll likely get much more of same, and newer stuff. I hardly ever hear him anymore...only on pirate station 93.7 IF I can be home and remember to listen when he's on, which is rare.
Funny, did NOT intend this to be a conspiracy update...) but you got me goin' with "Manson" (which could be one reason, if as you suggest, the law really doesn't support his being IN, why he won't get out. Of course, from being in SF then, there were some MIGHTY fucked up folks, without help (direct) of US Govt coverts.
Some were roommates and women I dated, but I digress. Well, actually, ONE woman I met and "dated" back in the day (I found out DURING date!) had a boyfriend who was member of some group called Tribal Thumb, (I guess that was like "thumbs up, or down"?) which blew away some community workers (like Popeye Jackson and his social worker girlfriend) for not being radical enough, that was their thing... kind of cut short my
romantic intentions once I found that one out. The ones involved had been busted for that before I dated her, but... why take such chances... maybe I'd be non-PC - I mean, hey, it WAS a date! And, damn, in hormonal-dominated values of the moment... she was fine, too...

Sandy

I collect macabre and dark novelty songs. I wanted to ask you about a song called “I Sawed Mommy Kissing Santa Claus''. It was done by Robert Pritikin. Is this literally a song involving the kid sawing the mother in half? Just curious. Would it be possible for me to send you a blank tape and then you would tape the song for me? I would gladly pay you for the service. Thanks.

Cheat Sheets
Hi,
I am kind of lost. Am wondering what the purpose of the cheat sheets are, if the words to the songs aren't there. Or am I overlooking something? Have been searching for a long time for the words to "The Little Red Patch On The Seat Of My Trousers", and I was so excited when
I found it listed in your site. My father used to sing this when he milked the cows, and it's the words I need. Can you help? Thanks.

Mondo Mod video
Hey Ratz,
I just bought the video from Moviesunlimited.com last week. Do you actually have a copy of the movie soundtrack? Do you know where I could find a copy of the Soundtrack album? The reason I ask is because my dad was in the movie and I'm looking for any memorabilia that I can get my hands on for his birthday next month.
I just picked up a press book and I can just make out his picture on the front. He is one of the Harley riders.
Btw, I'm not a bootlegger. Just a collector.
Peace,

Sicily
Ratso,
Ciao compari! I should be in bed because I've got to get up and drive a 100 miles to work at 4:30 tomorrow morning, but instead I'm once again chuckling through your narrative. Forgive my spelling please as there is no spell checker on this aol email GUI.
I don't know how I found your site. I guess one of your pages popped up on altavista.it while I was checking out camping sites. You do a wonderful job of letting your reader in on your experience. For me you push all kinds of buttons that remind me of past travels.
I'm mostly Irish by birth, but Sicilian by marriage! When I was about 12 years old I got a crush on this wild dark skinned beauty who had finally settled in our little town after years of summering here as part of the yearly fisherman's family migration from San Pedro to Bellingham to be closer to the fisherman themselves who would fish San Pedro, San Francisco, Bellingham and finally Bristol Bay.
My crush blossomed into true love shortly after high school and we ran away together to Monterey where I has signed up with the Air Force to be an Arabic translator. It was 1981 and we were 19 and poor and away from home, but not away from home. Half of Monterey were relatives of my wife it seemed. One of her dad's first fishing boats was at the entrance to the wharf and the famous picture of him and his crew with their world record Sardine catch was all over the place.
Anyway after a short stop in Texas (and a two week adventure vacation to Mexico City and Vera Cruz via bus!) we flew off to Athens, Greece where we lived high up on a hill above the city for the next two and half years. Several times a week I would take off on an airplane and fly somewhere in the Middle East to keep track of one war or another and then back I would come to visit my wife who could always be found, olive black and shiny laying on the beach somewhere. I can't remember for sure, but I think she made it to beach 180 days in a row one year. We traveled to the islands every weekend enjoying snorkeling and wind surfing, and eating! We skied on Parnaso in the Winter, stopping often to check out Delphi on the way. In the islands we dined late and danced even later and after, skinny dipped with friends to cool down, and danced some more. Anyway it was a lot of fun and your description of Sicily brought back a lot of memories.
My daughter Gina wants to do a web site of our trip for her class and I'm going to suggest she borrow your pages as a template if you don't mind. I'm sure she'll enjoy your descriptions as much as I did. My boys, 13 and 15, are mostly interested in finding a topless beach. I told them that it is still pretty chilly at Easter, but they still have their hopes up.
Thanks again for sharing. We'll keep you posted on our progress.
